To demonstrate the KnowledgeSite Abstracter, press the demo button below. A new window will open that gives a choice of user interfaces. For the most complete example, choose the 'Article Centric' option. Then log in with user name 'Demo'. You will be shown a list of documents of different types with previously prepared abstracts.

You can also ask the KnowledgeSite Abstracter to generate an abstract for one of your own documents by pressing the 'New' button. A web form will display allowing you to upload a document for summarization. Choose a file on your computer using the 'Browse' button and then press 'Upload & Summarize'. Uploaded documents are summarized using a Batch Processor pipeline with a generic configuation. The upload form accepts documents with '.pdf', '.htm', '.html' or '.txt' file extensions. If you would like to try a document from a word processing or desktop publishing package, use 'Save As' in the package that created the document to save it as a 'Text Only (*.txt)' document before performing the upload.

Please do not submit confidential documents or offensive material because documents uploaded to the server for summarization are visible to other users of the demo.

See the Custom Evaluation section below about demonstrations using other document types. If you do not have a document you can upload, or would prefer just to see a quick demo, you can log in with user name 'Demo'. There are a number of abstracts previously prepared that you can experiment with. Documents uploaded for demonstration are deleted each night.

Browser Info

Some features of the Abstracter's Workbench, such as the sentence cut-and-paste capability, use features that are available in Internet Explorer 5.5 or later. For the best results, try the demo with a recent version of Internet Explorer. Also recommended is pressing the 'F11' function key after starting the demo which shrinks the IE menus and thus maximizes the amount of screen space availble for viewing and editing. Press 'F11' again when done to restore the IE menus to their original state.

Note about PDF documents sent to the demo

If you choose to send a PDF document to the KnowledgeSite Abstracter using the file upload feature, you will need to have available a 'real' PDF document (that is, one produced by Adobe Acrobat from a desktop publishing system) or you need to use a PDF Image+Text document produced by an OCR package. PDF Image-only documents are not accepted as input by the KnowledgeSite Abstracter since it operates on the text component of the document.

Custom Evaluations

The KnowledgeSite Abstracter generates abstracts from text-based documents. A variety of results are possible by using different configuration settings for the pipeline. The settings depend primarily on the editorial objectives for the environment in which the final abstracts will be used. The above demonstration uses a generic configuration that may not be the most appropriate setup for your situation. If you'd like to see how a customized setup of the KnowledgeSite Abstracter performs on a collection of your documents, contact us about preparing a custom evaluation.

If we prepare a custom summarization for you, you will be given a login name you can use in the Login form that will permit review of the prepared results.
